Sports Premium

Following the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games, the Government has provided funding for schools to secure a significant and lasting legacy for the children. The aim is to develop an enjoyment of sport and physical activity, and to promote a healthy lifestyle in children from an early age. The funding was originally due to finish in 2020 but due to the negative impact COVID has had on the Nations children, and the positive impact the sports fund has had on children's physical development and engagement, the funding has continued this year.

The funding is calculated by the number of primary aged children between the ages of 5 and 11 years, as recorded in the annual schools census. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on the provision of PE and sports in schools. The purpose of the funding is to ensure schools continue to improve their provision of PE and sport. Although it is the schools decision on how best to use this, all spending must be published.

Possible uses for funding might include:

Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE, developing practice, knowledge and skills.

Paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport, providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport.

Running and attending sports competitions, increasing pupils participation in Inter and Intra competitions and festivals.

Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE and sports. This may include developing indoor and outdoor environments to increase participation.

Providing additional wider school opportunities to develop sports skills and experience a wider range of sporting activities, this may include sports and holiday clubs.

Supporting and engaging the least active children through new or additional sporting opportunities and clubs.

Signpost and supporting talented pupils to further develop their sporting ability out of school, this may include supplying relevant equipment.

Aims for our School Sports Premium

For all children to enjoy and benefit from high quality PE opportunities regardless of sporting ability

For children to gain a life long love for PE and sports, both as an active participant and a spectator

For children to have access to new experiences which support and improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing and give them the tools they need to live a healthy lifestyle.

For children to  develop skills, confidence and motivation during PE lessons and have a 'can do' attitude.

For children to be given the opportunity to compete in tournaments and festivals with other schools.

For staff to access to training opportunities and continued professional development and sustainability for high quality Physical Education and school sport for years to come.
