Inclusion
Inclusion
At Langtons Infant School and Nursery we strive to create a happy, caring community where everyone feels valued and secure. We celebrate the progress and achievements of every child and recognise that success looks different for different learners.
We promote positive learning experiences for children with SEND by:
- Ensuring children feel a valued part of the school and wider community
- Providing a safe, calm and supportive environment
- Using a wide range of teaching approaches and strategies to support personalised learning
- Encouraging independence, confidence and resilience, while ensuring children receive the right level of adult support
- Identifying needs early and responding promptly with effective strategies and interventions
- Supporting children to communicate their needs and preferences, particularly during transitions
- Working in partnership with parents/carers through regular communication and shared planning
- Making effective use of specialist services and professional advice where appropriate
- Following an assess, plan, do, review approach to ensure all information is relevant and up-to-date
- Delivering high-quality, adaptive teaching in the classroom (Quality First Teaching)
- Following an Entry-Exit Policy for our two Inclusion Bases within the school.
Inclusion Bases
Within our school we have two Inclusion Bases for children who are not yet fully accessing the mainstream classes. These are called The Woods and The Meadows.
Here you will find all the latest information about our Inclusion Support Bases, along with highlights of the exciting things we have been doing.
In The Woods and The Meadows, we focus on promoting communication and interaction through a total communication approach, including the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). We have recently included SCERTS into our communication methods, allowing children to be grouped based on their talking stages.
We work on personalised, individual targets to support each learner’s growth and where appropriate small group activities to encourage social interactions for learners.
We aim to provide self-regulation opportunities through sensory intervention, while also fostering positive relationships between peers and staff. All children have a personalised Sensory Diet, alongside individual timetables for structured, gradual re-integration back into mainstream classes.
We develop our communication and early learning skills through personalised structured pathways. We work closely with our adults to develop our engagement and to build positive relationships. We are learning how to regulate our own emotions with the help of our adults. We recognise that all behaviour is communication and we strive to extend our children’s confidence and independence within our world.

We also provide pastoral support for children who may need help with emotional wellbeing, social development or behaviour. Support may be delivered through individual or small group sessions, always tailored to the needs of the child.
