Parent Workshop Year 1 and 2 September 2023 - Please note - Phonics has changed so please click below for latest Phonics

Phonics

We use Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS) which is a systematic synthetic programme (SSP). Phonics is taught daily and follows a specific sequence that allows our children to build on their previous phonic knowledge and master specific phonic strategies.  Children take home reading books that are closely matched to the sounds they are taught.

Maths Workshop 2022

Florence Nightingale visited Year 2.  We found out all about her life and experiences.  We pretended to be nurses and injured soldiers.  It was very interesting.

We enjoyed doing 'Active Maths'!

Our teacher had a hole in her umbrella so during our science lessons we investigated materials to find the most suitable one to use to repair the umbrella.  We then selected the best three materials and attached them to the umbrella and poured water over it.  If the person under the umbrella stayed dry, then we knew this was a good material.

We used our climbing, rolling and balancing skills during P.E.

During Black History Month, Willow researched Nelson Mandela and Maple found out about Marcus Rashford.  We used the chrome books for research and during P.E. did Marcus Rashford football skills!

It was 'Break The Rules Day'!  We didn't wear our uniform, ate an unhealthy snack, played music during lessons and ... had dessert before our mains!

We used atlases to find out about the countries and seas that make up and surround the United Kingdom.

Year 2 researched the life and work of the artist, Vincent Van Gogh.  We analysed his work and practiced his techniques in our sketch book.  Finally, we recreated our favourite piece of work.

We visited St Andrew's Church for the Harvest Festival.  We sang really beautifully.
